Now there's yet another thing no longer hanging over Britney Spears' head.
Attorneys representing the shorn pop star and estranged hubby Kevin Federline said Thursday that the couple have reached a "global divorce settlement on all issues of their marriage," including custody of their two children.
A day after visiting the dentist for the second time in a week to get a painful tooth checked out and a little more than a week after checking out of rehab, Spears met with Federline and their lawyers for five hours, after which they signed off on their agreement, a spokesman for K-Fed's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told E! News.
Spears and Federline tied the knot in September 2004 after a tabloid-friendly summer romance.
Before long, they were exposing way too much of themselves (though obviously Spears had plenty more to reveal later) in their short-lived reality series Britney & Kevin: Chaotic and welcoming son Sean Preston on September 14, 2005. Jayden James was born the following year, two days shy of his brother's birthday.
Although the tables have since turned, it was reports of Federline's constantly partying ways that shrouded the couple's split last fall. That and the utter failure that was Playing with Fire, the aspiring rapper's debut album.
Five months after telling Dateline that her marriage was "awesome," Spears filed for divorce on Nov. 7, 2006, citing irreconcilable differences, and was awarded temporary custody of 18-month-old Sean Preston and six-month-old Jayden James, with Federline getting visitation rights.
The following day, the disgruntled dad counter-filed papers seeking spousal support and physical and legal custody of the boys.
Since then, however, it's Spears who has dominated the headlines, first with her panty-less "I'm single!" rebellion phase and then with two brief rehab check-ins, a striking new 'do and, finally, a lengthier stay at the Promises treatment center in Malibu that began Feb. 21.
While it's hard to say where the chips fell Thursday, Federline won family values points this month by taking care of the kids while mommy was away and bundling them up to visit her. The seemingly doting dad was also reportedly one of the concerned family members who helped prompt the "Toxic" singer to seek treatment for what ailed her, refusing to relinquish custody until she took a timeout.
Spears checked out of Promises Mar. 20 and has been spotted out and about, shopping, dining with friends, working out and otherwise going about her business.
Federline, meanwhile, celebrated his 29th birthday in Las Vegas over the weekend with a party at the nightclub Pure attended by, among others, Shar Jackson—the mother of Federline's other two children.
